The Stingers U 12 side gathered for their first training session in early
March and two things were very apparent. 1. The side was quite young with a
significant number of players stepping up from the U 10's 2. While the side
was small it was made up of a number of good runners.
These two factors combined to shape the game plan, one based on finding
space and letting our free runners 'out pace' the opposition. It took some
time to get players out of the habit of simply playing down the central
corridor and instead looking for the spaces in the flanks, but with a few
trainings under the teams belt an open style of play was apparent. Such a
style saw the young Tigers get off to a positive start recording two
comfortable wins. However the side still struggled when coming up against
bigger more physical opponents. Still in all games contested it was clear
that when the Tigers play to their strengths the ball could be moved quickly
and efficiently down the field.
As a result spectators and supporters of this side have been treated to
some excellent contests and some very pleasing victories. Currently the side
sits in a clear 5th spot with 4 wins 4 losses and a washout. The side is
looking forward to return clashes with some of the heavy weights in the
competition in the second round and is hopeful of playing some finals footy
at the end of the year.
